Horticulture and History
Our first summer at the manor was full of hard work and lots of delightful little surprises. We were in awe of the wondrous starry night sky, so clear and bright, you could even see the Milky Way. We stumbled upon acres of delicious wild blackberries right in our own backyard and feasted for days. It is too bad we didn’t think to pick more and freeze them. Lesson learned for next summer. What truly brought us joy, were the few local residents that still reside in this little hamlet. Our neighbors were all so welcoming and generous, treating us like long lost family and bringing all kinds of amazing wares from their farms: fruits, veggies, legumes, potatoes, eggs, fresh sausages, marmalades, the list went on and on. Having worked these lands for generations, we loved hearing their stories of the land and of their ancestors, who first built our manor. It was magical to sit with them and feel like you were living history.
