The Money Pit
Just bought a money pit, now what?
March 2020, like so many others around the world, we found ourselves in a total lockdown, unable to leave our home other than for bare essentials and to walk the dog (he loved the pandemic). With lots of time on our hands and nowhere to go for the next few months, we intensified our search, now virtual, to find the perfect place to one day run a boutique winery bed and breakfast. We had settled on northern Spain and thanks to Google Earth, we’re able to explore the local vicinities from the comfort of our own couch. After an exorbitant amount of research, we actually found properties of interest and narrowed the list down to a handful. Unfortunately, due to the prolonged nature of travel restrictions and confinements, we actually had to wait until the following spring to physically visit these properties. Thankfully, we were working with an amazing real estate company, Galician Rustic, who not only catered to international clients like ourselves, but we’re extremely creative in helping us ‘shop’ for the just right property under such extraordinary circumstances. Rosy Costoya along with her husband Mark, are the owners of Galician Rustic and are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and very responsive, even providing us with travel documents to legally enter the region, during COVID-19 restrictions. Once we made our decision, Rosy stepped in and even completed all the legalities on our behalf as we were out of the country for the final closing of the property sale. It took some time to get there, but by August 2021, we had keys in hand to our new home, a wonderful manor in Galicia with endless possibilities.
